Thought's on storytelling...

In today's society it is becoming easier and faster to relate stories to family, friends, and even complete strangers. One of the most amazing technological advancements in our time has been the creation of social networking websites such as "twitter" and "facebook".  We can use these outlets for the use of storytelling events and occasions that happen in our everyday life and even "post" the occasional random comment usually executed in our extreme boredom. For instance, my mother has reconnected over facebook with her long lost cousin half way across America who is studying their family genealogy.  They have been trading family stories from the past.  I find it amazing that storytelling (something so simple and creative) has evolved so much over the millennia form a small family unit to global networking.

  1. My question: does just telling the world of your ramdom happenstances actually count as storytelling?? In my opinion, they sort of do, but not on the same level as a person who can captivate an audience. I believe that true story telling involves more thought and creativity than simply spouting off whatever comes off of the top of your head....but that's just my opinion.

  2. Allen,
Are you refering to facebook with your "random Happenstances"? If so, not everyone uses facebook or twitter to "spout off" random statements. Furthermore, we were not given a precise definition of "storytelling" that Mrs. Ramirez wanted us to use therefore, in the context of my post I see it as "true story telling"

  3. I agree with John, there many different ways to interpret storytelling since it is so open ended. Storytelling can be a song, poem, tv show, etc.
